Sisters in Crime - A Peek Behind the Curtain

Three crime writers working in different corners of the genre describe the writing process—getting that first idea, creating characters, doing the research, and the daily writing schedule that gets it done.

Dinner and drinks will be provided.

About the authors:

Martha “Max” Folsom: is a retired Canadian bookmobile librarian, who later served for eight years as president of the library board of trustees in Arlington, Vermont. She is now a regular columnist for the quarterly Sherlockian journal Groans, Cries and Bleatings, as well as being the author of three private detective novels in the Baker Somerset Crime Novel series: One Bad Day After Another, Searching for Peter Griffiths, and Death of a Codebreaker. Her mysteries have dealt with issues such as: illegal activity in the military arms and equipment industry, the human rights violations regarding the island of Diego Garcia, WWII spies and codebreakers, and increasing activity of far-right hate groups. Folsom is a member of Sisters in Crime, the League of Vermont Writers, and Crime Writers of Canada. She is married to a retired Canadian military officer and divides her time between their Ottawa Centretown apartment and their Vermont stone house. She is currently at work on her fourth novel. Reading mysteries is her favorite pastime activity and several times she has read more than 200 books in a year.

Karen Lakis, writing as Kara Lacey, is a photography enthusiast who enjoys hiking, skiing, watching the sunrise, and getting comfortable with a good book. After leaving her career in academic finance, she moved to a tiny southern Vermont village, where her surroundings inspire her writing. She is the author of the Camera Club Mystery Series, traditional whodunnit mysteries with a warm, cozy vibe. Her first novel, Caught on Camera, was published by Level Best Books in September 2024. When she's not at her laptop creating havoc for her characters, you'll find her rambling through the forest with her husband and spirited Labrador retriever, camera in hand. Kara is a member of Sisters in Crime (SinC), SinC New England, and Mystery Writers of America. She is also Co-Member at Large for Vermont SinC-NE writers.

Eugenia Parrish: is the author of the mystery series, "The Del Sueno Files". She grew up in Canton, Ohio, but has mined her stories from all her travels. Eugenia has had short stories published in several local magazines as well as an essay in the Journal of the Romance Writers of America. Her first Vermont murder mystery story was published in the 2021 Crime Spell Books anthology "Bloodroot". She was a happy molecule in the first foaming crest of the baby-boomer wave. Her YA novel, “The Last Party in Eden” is about those aptly-named turbulent times. She blogs sporadically at https://eugeniaparrish.blog/.
